U.S. News & World Report has released the results of its 2015 Best Medical Schools for Research, and we’re proud to report that Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons is once again sitting among the Top 10 in the country.
A total of 156 fully accredited schools of medicine were surveyed, both allopathic (focused on the diagnosis and treatment of disease via medicine or surgery) and osteopathic (a more holistic approach to diagnosis and treatment, with an emphasis on prevention). Data from the 118 responding schools was evaluated according to eight indicators, including admission statistics, faculty research activity and faculty-to-student ratio.
Not only was Columbia medical school in the top rankings overall, it was the only school in NY state and the NYC Metro Area to claim a spot in the Top 10.
And it’s not just Columbia’s medical school that was recognized by U.S. News:
Columbia University Medical Center/NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital was ranked #5 nationally among best hospitals for adult neurology and neurosurgery. Factored into the rankings were patient safety, hospital reputation, nurse-to-patient ratio, advanced technologies and specialty patient services.
In keeping with our exclusive state ranking among medical schools, Columbia comes in #1 in overall rankings for adult neurology and neurosurgery in both NY state and the NYC Metro Area.
And one more highlight: Columbia was among just 15 hospitals nationwide to earn a prestigious spot on this year’s U.S. News & World Report Honor Roll, an annual list of “hospitals with very high scores in at least six specialties,” according to the U.S. News website.
Thank you to the doctors in the Department of Neurosurgery, as well as to the supporting team members and staff at Columbia, for their continued commitment, which has led to this ongoing recognition.
